Castle Series: Brillant Red Heidelberger Schloss
This elegant red stone castle; partially rebuilt, beautifully overlooks the Neckar River and the old town of Heidelberg. Since most castles are built on hills, it can always be a challenge getting to the location. Luckily, this castle site has a bergbahn (castle train) one can catch at the bottom of the hill. There is also the option to walk up the path to the castle. Of course, I decided to go for the extra workout and traverse the trail upward. A gallon of sweat later, I made it to the entrance. Inside the castle there is a great museums on alchemy medicine, a traditional winery and historical facts on the Heidelberger Schloss. It is possible to tour the castle on your own. Once done, take a ice cream in the park and just enjoy.
